Australia

My birthplace, my family's home for many years and to me a mixed lot of scrambled memories, smells and sounds. I recall the smell of Eucalyptus in the open bush air, the way a particular outback shrub would glow in the headlights of our car, a feeling of vigour in the warmth of the sun and the tumble of waves. These are but my only memories of Australia as a child. I wanted so badly to feel as though I belonged here but the truth is that I never did. The Australian countryside is undeniably beutiful, breathtaking in its vastness and grandeur. The cities are clean and bright but for me they are also unbearably uncharismatic. Australia as we know it is a relatively young nation and sadly the spirit and mystique of the native Aboriginal culture has all but been eradicated.
